About Mido watches
The watch brand Mido was founded in 1918 by the Swiss watchmaker Georges Schaeren and still bore the name G.Schaeren & Cie. In 1924, his brother Henri joined the company and until then had been commercial director at Omega.
In 1940, Mido specialised in the production of water-resistant watches, followed four years later by the introduction of automatic watches.
Mido became famous in 1944 with the production of the Multifort, which was able to combine four characteristics: an automatic movement, it was water-resistant and was considered both antimagnetic and shock-resistant. Until 1950, the Multifort was regarded as the cornerstone of the company's successful history.
In 1959, Mido launched the Ocean Star, which became known for its revolutionary monocoque housing. This is a so-called monocoque housing, which solved the problem of watertightness.
Even the smallest automatic watch ever made can be traced back to MIDO and was launched on the market in 1967.
