The history of Union Glashütte dates back to 1893. At that time the merchant Johannes Dürrstein founded the Glashütter Uhrenfabrik Union in Saxony. His vision was to create watches "that have everything that makes them precise and beautiful, but nothing that makes them more expensive".

With his created universal watch, he actually managed to be the creator of the most complicated watch in the world. This watch had a perpetual calendar, a moon phase and leap year display, a double chronograph, an alarm clock and a minute repeater with Grande Sonnerie. 24 bridges and cocks, 75 wheels, 25 pinions, 4 ton springs, 205 steel levers with springs, 60 jewels, 40 metal bearings and 308 screws with a movement diameter of 51 mm were used.
